Najawa Comic, 1958. A young girl picks out oranges at a market, and returns home where her day is cooking a stew. He holds up a jar of olive oil. Reads: “My name is Najawa. I was born in 1948 in Lydda, but grew up in the al-Jalazun refugee camp near Ramallah. When I would cook with my father as a child, he often told me about the home we fled in Lydda. We had grown olives there and pressed our own oil. Every meal was laced with longing for a place I had heard so many stories about. My father always said: Innana ‘Ai’ Doun – We Shall Return.”
